1.1. Reference Services

For any kind of queries "Reference services" are provided both online and offline mode. Students may approach the "Reference Section," D6 Library to get any information or assistance for using the library resources and services. Online reference services can be available via e-mail and the timings depend on the type of queries. In case any kind of problems are faced in using the library or any kind of special requirements, the library welcomes the suggestion to improve the library services. Students can drop their suggestions in the "Suggestion Box” OR can contact through email: culib.ref@cumail.in.

1.2. Check out/ Check in
  • The library users must keep their bags and other personal belongings in the Baggage Counters of the library.
  • All the users are advised not to leave their valuables at the Checkpoint. Library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings.
  • Don’t carry any etable things in the library
  • All users should do proper in-out while entering & leaving in the library
  • If any reader found taking a book out from the library without following formal procedure, with intention/ by mistake will be considered as unauthorized act, s/he will be penalized as per library disciplinary procedure
1.3. Self-Check-in/ Check- out Station

CU Library has implemented RFID self-check-in/check-out systems, allowing users to manage borrowing, returns, and renewals independently at designated stations equipped with RFID readers:

  • Check-out: Books are scanned, updating the item status to "checked-out" in the library system.
  • Check-in: Returned books are scanned, marking them as "checked-in" and updating their availability.

These systems enhance convenience and efficiency by automating routine library transactions, reducing the need for staff intervention.

1.4. Check out/ Check in of Other Resources
  • Periodicals: Please be advised that periodicals are available for issuance to faculties and research scholars subject to special permission and on an overnight basis.
  • CD/DVD: CDs and DVDs are also available for borrowing on a special permission basis and overnight only.
  • Special Collections: We wish to inform our users that the CU Library boasts several special collections, which are normally not available for borrowing. We kindly request that interested users seek permission from the library staff prior to borrowing these materials, as they are highly valuable and may require additional care and attention.
1.5. Inter Library Loan Services:

The CU Library recognizes that library users may require access to materials that are not available in our collection. To assist in meeting these needs, the library offers an inter library loan (ILL) service whereby users can request access to documents from consortium members of the library. Library users can request for ILL services at culib.ref@cumail.in , cu.er@cumail.in.

1.6. Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) Alert

The CU Library provides a valuable service to faculty members and researchers in the form of Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) alerts. These alerts are designed to keep users informed of the latest developments in their respective areas of interest. SDI alert service is just one of the ways in which we aim to support the academic pursuits of our users.

1.7. Article Request

Article request service is a valuable resource that is offered by CU Library to their users. It allows library users to request copies of journal articles that are not available in their library’s collection.

Users can request an article by providing details such as its title, author, publisher, or DOI through culib.ref@cumail.in. If the article is covered under our subscription, users will receive an immediate reply with an attachment of the article. However, if the requested article is unfortunately out of the coverage area of the CU Library, our periodical section can make a request to the publisher for the article and will try to provide it to the users as soon as possible.

1.8. Toppers Card

To encourage students with good academic record, CU Library offers additional benefits to those with a high CGPA. To qualify for the Toppers Membership, students must submit a copy of their current semester DMC.

1.9. Library Book Bank

In order to encourage needy students, Chandigarh University KRC facilitates students with additional books for the semesters.

  • The Book will be given to the students of all categories on the basis of the income of their parents and the same will be Rupees 2.0 lakhs per annum.
  • Depending upon the availability of the sets of books priority will be given to the students whose parent's income is below Rupees 2.0 lakhs per annum.
  • All students who are availing the facility must ensure to return the entire set of books provided to them within two days of completion of their final examination concerned semester.
  • If any student availing the facility loses the book/damages the book/mutilates the book, he/she shall replace the volume(s) with a new book (or pay the current cost of the book plus fine, if any, as may be directed by authority).
  • The students will be charged Rs. 20/-per book/semester.
1.10. Night Permission Card (For Girls)

The library at Chandigarh University treats all students equally, allowing both boys and girls to use the facilities without any restrictions during library hours. To ensure the safety of female students, the library offers a Night Permission Card, which permits them to use the library after regular hours. Female students can apply for this card by filling out a “Night Permission form” on their online library catalogue or emailing the required information to cul.cir@cumail.in. They can collect the card from the D6 library between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM. The required information includes their full name, UID, email ID, phone number, and hostel name.
